Tafsir Surah Al-Baqarah: The Cow - Verse 251..........Part 3

and so with God’s permission, they defeated them. David killed Goliath and God gave him sovereignty and wisdom and taught him what He pleased. If God did not drive some people back by means of others, the earth would be completely corrupt, but God is bountiful to all. (Chapter 2: Verse 251)
Here is a fact: Conflict and war will never break out between two forces of the truth because there are no two truths in existence; there is only one. So you can never say: ‘well both sides are right.’ If a conflict occurs, it could happen between the truth on one side and falsehood on the other, or it could happen between two forces of falsehood.
Moreover, the battle between the truth and falsehood does not last long. Only those battles which are between two falsehoods prolong because neither of them is worthy of God’s support. God allows the forces of corruption to destroy one another. Then, when people tire of corruption and return to His path, they prosper in peace.
If you look at conflicts around the world today, you will see that each party –regardless of its declared ideology- has a different worldly desire. God does not support either side; He leaves them to quarrel with each other for years and decades. But if either of them fought while keeping God in mind, then they would earn His support. Listen to the following verse: God says:
If two groups of the believers fight, you should try to reconcile them; if one of them is oppressing the other, fight the oppressors until they submit to God’s command, then make a just and even-handed reconciliation between the two of them: God loves those who are equitable. (49:09)
When a fight breaks out between two sects of the believers, the Almighty commands a third party of the believers to resolve the conflict. If one transgresses over the other and refuses to reconcile, then God instructs the believers to fight the transgressing party until they return to His path.
The tragedy of our modern era is that conflicts and fights rage for years and decades because the warring parties have different worldly desires; even third parties who claim to be arbitrators intervene for the sake of their worldly desires. No one has justice in mind, and no one has God in mind. Our world will remain in turmoil until people seek truth and justice for the sake of the truth and justice. Otherwise, we will continue to waste time and resources. We will deprive ourselves of God’s help until we realize that the only way to end these problems is to set aside greed and return to the shared teachings of Our Creator.
Would you like to see how things run under the command of your Creator? Take a moment to look at nature that has not been spoiled by man. Gaze into space, the moon, the sun, planets, and stars. Everything runs with beautiful precision. The lifecycle takes its due course. Nothing is wasted, everything is recycled, and everyone flourishes. God says: ‘If God did not drive some people back by means of others, the earth would be completely corrupt.’
Every place where man has interfered, there is corruption. When modern governments want to preserve the beauty and resources of an area, they declare it a natural protected area. In other words, they set laws to keep human and commercial activities out, because they realize that these activities equal corruption. Any human activity that is not governed by God’s law will result in corruption. He says:
He erected heaven and established the balance (55:7)
The Almighty is the One who elevated the sky and set the balance. Everything functions like clockwork; everything runs in perfect harmony. If you want your life to run in harmony and precision, then you need to align your actions with God’s teachings just as the heaven and earth do. Let the Creator be the standard for your deeds. Allah says:
He erected heaven and established the balance; that you should not violate the harmony and balance. And observe the balance with full equity, and do not fall short in it. (55:7-9)
Wouldn’t it make sense to follow the teachings of the One who set everything in perfect balance? Haven’t we learned enough from our own mistakes that caused corruption and conflict? Life can be upright and beautiful similar to the divine creation in the universe. Remember God’s words:
He erected heaven and established the balance; that you should not violate the harmony and balance. (55:7-8)
If you keep these words in mind, you will aim for a higher balance in your life. The earth does not spin away from its orbit because it is governed by the system God created for it. God says:
Neither can the sun overtake the moon, nor the night outpace the day: Each of them keeps coursing in its orbit. (36:40)
Allah created you and gave you freedom of choice; He also guided you through prophets and scriptures. The seal of the prophets is our Beloved prophet Muhammad, and the crown of the scriptures is the Noble Quran. The following verse gives you a perfect summary. God says:
We sent you the Scripture with the truth, confirming the Scriptures that came before it, and with final authority over them: so judge between them according to what God has sent down. Do not follow their whims, which deviate from the truth that has come to you. We have assigned a law and a path to each of you. If God had so willed, He would have made you one community, but He wanted to test you through that which He has given you, so race to do good: you will all return to God, and He will make clear to you the matters you differed about. (5:48)
